​This club is dedicated to creating animated shorts in a team environment. Members gain valuable industry skills and experience through practice. We plan to produce a 1-2 minute animated short each year. Each member will use their unique skills to work in collaboration to create the animated short for that year. A variety of skills will be needed to produce a successful animated short, including (but not limited to); 2D/3D animation, background design, script writing, sound design, storyboarding, voice acting, and more! At the end of each year there will be a showcase event to show off the hard work that all of our members put towards creating the animated short!

The Chemistry Club is open to ALL SOU students regardless of major or department, we hope to create an environment where everyone that enjoys cool science feels welcome!

The SOU Chemistry Club is an affiliate of the American Chemical Society that aims to promote an appreciation of chemistry through demonstrations, volunteer activities, and social gatherings.
We work to improve skills in communicating science to the public through events like Fall into Chemistry, our annual demo show.

The main purpose of the SOU chess club is to provide a space for SOU students & alumni to play chess casually, learn tactics together, and discuss current events in the global chess community. This club is open to players of all skill levels including new players who have never played before, but are interested in learning. Chess has been known to have an intimidating stigmatization surrounding it, which can make prospective players feel overwhelmed or intimidated when learning how to play. The SOU chess club aims to change that commonly held predisposition and to create an environment of friendly sportsmanship, community, and collective growth. Players that are seeking a more competitive atmosphere can also find opportunities to challenge similarly skilled or higher level players in friendly tournaments against fellow members or represent SOU in tournaments that may be held locally, for example.

Creative Writing Club is a place for horse girls, snake charmers, raven hearts, reality TV lovers, and those resembling writers. It's a place to share words, combine them, create new ones, chew on them only to spit them back up. It's where reality becomes story and story becomes truth. In Creative Writing Club, there are no borders, only ways to destroy them. We not only practice the art of writing, we give it new meaning. We do this through sharing our work, developing routines, exploring form, and putting on readings for all the strange and unusual to enjoy.

Capitalizing on the unique and varied environmental settings in southern Oregon, the Environmental Science, Policy, and Sustainability program effectively prepares its students for success in a broad range of environmental careers and fosters in them, by example, a commitment to serving the community. This is a club for the students, and run by the students. The motto for the club is taken from Jaques line in Act 2 scene 7, of As You Like It, "All the world's a stage,..."(2.7.140) This club is not a directing class or a directing project. This is a club geared to get members, if they don’t already to start seeing plays from a director’s point of view and perspective. This club is also geared to have a learning experience with the guest speakers we have as they share their experience, how they got top where they’re at, and what it’s like working with who they work with and also from the question and answer time we have with them. Next this club is also to be point members in the right direction as members are given a suggestion as who to talk to if they want to be a stage director or just want to know more about the ins and outs of stage directing if they are interested.

This is the Hospitality and Tourism Management Club at Southern Oregon University. This club aims to give students an opportunity to learn about the hospitality industry. The hospitality industry has a wide variety of opportunities to learn about food and drink services, event planning, loading services, theme park management, travel services, tourism, restaurant service, bar service, and so much more! We plan our events and learning opportunities around what our students are interested in and how we can progress their career opportunities.

The club also volunteers at local events such as the Oregon Wine Festival, the Cheese Festival, and the Oregon Chocolate Festival. These events and our other many fundraising events allow us to fund and plan yearly trips to explore behind the scenes at some hospitality industries that allow us to visit them. Hi Everyone! Welcome to the International Student Association (ISA). This club is a warm and welcoming place for students to gather and share about culture, cultural experiences and to learn more about others. Magic: The Gathering Club is here to welcome students who share an interest in Magic, the first collectible card game. The Medieval Arts Club dedicates itself to the learning and physical practices that were common in the renaissance and medieval times. We focus primarily on teaching, discovering, and practicing medieval swordplay, which is accomplished by giving students and non-students a chance to learn and practice fighting styles from skilled instructors. The Medieval Arts Club also has a strong foundation in the arts not associated with swordplay; we have people who enjoy costuming, calligraphy, scrollwork, and much more. Men's Lacrosse Club is dedicated to growing the sport of lacrosse on the west coast! During fall we will be playing tournaments in California as well as an alumni. The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is one of eight Federal TRIO Programs designed to identify and provide services to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. The SOU McNair Program is committed to assisting student scholars to successfully complete their undergraduate education, enroll in graduate school, and develop the knowledge and skills required to successfully complete a research intensive doctoral program (for example: a Ph.D., or an Ed.D., or a D.P.A., or a D.A. or a D.F.A, or a D.M., or a D.P.H. or a D.S.W., or a D.P.E., or a D.M.L, or a D.Des., or a D.Sc./Sc.D., or a D.N.Sc.). SOU Rowing is a student-run club going on our 9th year of being a program at Southern Oregon. We collaborate with the local rowing association, Rogue Rowing, and row at Emigrant Lake. Our goal is to create a community where those who want to learn about rowing and those who want to continue rowing can join each other in a boat and row together. We aim to bring in everyone ranging in experience and teach them the sport of rowing.

We make room for those who only aim to learn about rowing to those who want to race collegiately. SOU rowing participates in two regattas located in Eugene, OR. and Sacramento CA. in the spring term. We give our athletes the choice of racing or not and look forward to receiving students of any experience.

SOU Rowing is a former gold medalist of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association at Sacramento in 2019 for the Women's double and silver medalists in the American National championships in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017, and has qualified for nationals three times and went twice.

The Samoan club welcomes students of all ethnic groups to come together as one and learn the culture of the Samoan people. The goal of the Samoan club is to enlighten and educate students and community members of the rich culture of a group of Polynesians from the South Pacific Ocean. The motives of the club are to create a fun, educational, and safe space for Pacific Islander students, and students of different parts of the world who decide to join.

Members of the Samoan Club will have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with fellow students of Pacific Islander heritage as well as allies from diverse backgrounds. Benefits include attending the annual Pacific Islander Student Alliance (PISA) Conference in collaboration with other university clubs, participating in our signature traditions such as Fiafia Night, and engaging in Pacific cultural dance outreaches alongside other student organizations. The mission is to demonstrate the cultural significant the Deaf community through culture values. In doing so, by teaching basic signs and social engagement with other members both class participants from ASL courses and/or newcomers. This would provide a second space outside of the classroom for retaining the language skill, especially through exposure of fellow Deaf students.

The chapter seeks social change that extends democracy into all aspects of life: social, political, and economic. This vision is rooted in a struggle for democratic socialism that is profoundly democratic, feminist, and anti-racist, serving as a truth-based political education hub that moves beyond the two-party status quo.

Since 1994, the Success at Southern/TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program has committed to increasing the college retention, academic standing, and graduation rates of eligible participants. By providing a variety of services to meet students' needs, we assist eligible participants in clarifying their goals, succeeding academically in their chosen program of study, and graduating with a bachelor's degree in a timely manner.
Success at Southern/TRIO-SSS program is funded through a federal grant and is limited to 190 participants per academic year. During these years, Success at Southern/TRIO-SSS program has served more than 1,500 students, most of them first-generation and low-income students.
Our Objectives
1. Good Academic Standing: 89% of all project participants served by the TRIO project will meet the performance level required to stay in good academic standing at the grantee institution.
2. Persistence Rate: 75% of all project participants served by the TRIO project will persist from one academic year to the beginning of the next academic year.
3. Bachelor’s Degree Attainment: 46% of new participants served each year will graduate within six years.

The Tau Kappa Epsilon Special Interest Group is here to create support for a Greek Lettered System (Greek Life) on campus, beginning with the possibility through the fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE). We're a group open to all students, staff and faculty who wish to help direct the course for Greek Life back to SOU. We want you if you have an interest in transforming yourself, your campus and those around you to become better versions of ourselves by challenging each other to reflect and grow/develop leadership. We're not here to alter or change the entire SOU way of life, but add to it with access to external resources like scholarships, future job/career opportunities, alumni engagement, and new events.

TKE had a chapter on campus from the 60s through the 70s. We want to return it to SOU, but this Interest Group and the current chapter for TKE operate mostly independent from one another. There is some overlap between community service projects, events, and areas of focus between the Interest Group. We plan to hold social events/service projects (dances, dinners, fundraisers, etc.), invite others from TKE HQ and neighboring chapters to visit campus while this group is active.

Our club photo depicts three triangles because it's symbolic to TKE and us. One triangle has three sides to us representing a full equal development of mind, body and heart of one person. Multiple triangles represent a whole body of people capable of these developments should they choose.

The Next Best Thing Improv is an improvisation group that meets weekly from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sundays (dates can be modified depending on members' schedules) and rehearses acting improvisation. This club aims to provide a supportive environment for those wishing to practice acting improvisation, providing at least one performance per term to allow people to get comfortable performing improv in front of a live audience, and bringing entertainment and joy to the students and faculty members across the SOU campus. No previous improv experience is required to audition for this club!

Our Mission
To generate the highest quality newspaper in an unbiased manner to the students, staff, and faculty with newsworthy, entertaining, and stimulating content.

The Siskiyou is a weekly publication produced by students of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. The print edition of the Siskiyou began in November 1926, and over the years has established a reputation for accurate and unbiased reporting both on and off campus.

In January 2012 our editorial staff pioneered the transition to a completely online newspaper, allowing for more flexibility and in-depth reporting than our weekly print edition allowed. As the official student-run newspaper of SOU, the paper publishes stories throughout the academic school year, with the exception of winter, spring and summer breaks.

Community submissions, such as letters to the editor, columns, blogs and article comments are encouraged. Over the years, the editors and staff of the Siskiyou have won numerous awards. In 2009 and 2018, for example, the staff of the Siskiyou was awarded top honors in the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association’s Collegiate Newspaper Contest.

Students who join The Siskiyou gain invaluable experience by conducting interviews with students and community members, writing in AP Style, working with close deadlines, and collaborating as a team. The Siskiyou has a great team of students that are enthusiastic about the written word, producing unbiased news, and sharing their personal views on pop culture.
